Itinerary
Rumiñahui Volcano
Day 1
In the morning, the journey begins in Quito, heading to Hacienda El Porvenir. Upon arrival, a brief riding lesson is provided to prepare for an adventurous day. The day includes an exhilarating horseback ride to the dormant Rumiñahui volcano, traveling along exclusive trails with breathtaking Andean views. You’ll reach a lookout point near Rumiñahui’s peaks. There’s also a stop at the Owl Refuge, where you’ll learn about local owl conservation and enjoy a packed lunch. Afterward, you’ll ride back to Hacienda El Porvenir. The day concludes with a delicious, locally sourced dinner at the Hacienda.
Cotopaxi National Park
Day 2
After breakfast at Hacienda El Porvenir, the journey continues to Hacienda El Tambo, located in the eastern mountain range. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to admire the impressive Cotopaxi volcano. The ride also includes a visit to the ancient Inca fortress of Pucará del Salitre, adding a cultural element to the adventure. You’ll be treated to stunning landscapes, including mountain rivers, serene lakes, and incredible panoramas, covering approximately 27 miles (43 km) in 6 to 7 hours. A hearty-packed lunch will keep you energized. Upon reaching Hacienda El Tambo, a warm welcome awaits, and you can settle into the charming farmhouse. The day concludes with a delicious traditional dinner, where you can gather around a cozy fire and share stories of your adventurous journey.
Quilindaña Volcano
Day 3
Start your day with a delicious breakfast, preparing for an exciting adventure in the Andes. You’ll embark on a horseback journey, exploring the undulating terrain around the dormant Quilindaña volcano, which stands at an impressive 16,000 ft. Along the way, you’ll come across native trees like the pantza or polylepis, often referred to as the paper tree. Take the opportunity to dismount and stroll through this enchanting forest. In the middle of the exploration, enjoy a packed lunch.
Chirimachai
Day 4
Embark on the final day of your journey as you bid adieu to the tranquility of Hacienda El Tambo and set out on horseback alongside the picturesque River Tambo, guiding you toward the iconic Cotopaxi volcano. Opt for the elevated trail, take in mesmerizing landscapes, traverse the Curipugyo Canyon, and relish a satisfying packed lunch amidst magnificent vistas. Your last ride will lead you through Cotopaxi National Park, offering exceptional scenic spots for reflection, and upon your return to the Hacienda, a delicious dinner will cap off this remarkable adventure.
Pedregal Valley
Day 5
Following a hearty breakfast, you’ll embark on cobalt stone-paved roads, leading you through the charming village of El Pedregal, providing an opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture within this idyllic setting. Continuing your journey, you’ll make your way to the picturesque Pita River area, where a delicious packed lunch awaits, preparing you for the next thrilling phase: a visit to the northern entrance of Cotopaxi National Park. As the day concludes, you’ll return to Hacienda El Porvenir, putting the perfect finishing touch on your 5-Day Andes Mountain Horseback Riding Tour, with the journey back to Quito marking the end of this unforgettable adventure.

* Since we will ride in the mountains where the trails could be steep and where there is less oxygen lead we to put a maximum on rider weights of 200 pounds.
* Important things to bring: warm and waterproof clothing, comfortable shoes (no flip-flops or other open shoes), water, sunblock, sunglasses, and your passport.
