Situated in the Pacific Ocean, about 1.000 km away from the South American continent, these 19 islands and the surrounding marine reserve have been called a unique ‘living museum and showcase of evolution’. Located at the confluence of three ocean currents, the Galápagos are a ‘melting pot’ of marine species. Ongoing seismic and volcanic activity reflect the processes that formed the islands. These processes, together with the extreme isolation of the islands, led to the development of unusual animal life such as the land iguana, the giant tortoise and the many types of finch. These animals inspired Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection after his visit in 1835.

Ecua Horse Rides offers a unique experience of the Galapagos islands, the way we see them: as locals. With our customized individual itineraries, you can choose the sights and activities most suited to your interests. With our land-based island hopping operators you will stay at local hotels and eat at local restaurants.

DAY 1:
We fly from Quito or Guayaquil to the Island of Baltra. At the airport in Baltra, we will meet up with our English speaking guide who will take us to the port of Puerto Ayora (Santa Cruz Island) for lunch. Afterwards, we will take the public speedboat to Isabela, which lasts approximately three hours. We will arrive to HOTEL SAN VICENTE GALAPAGOS or LA LAGUNA HOTEL. After a brief rest at the hotel, we will head to the FLAMINGO LAGOON, which is the largest coastal lagoon found in the Galapagos and is one of the main reproductive sites for the grand majority of flamingos. (L,D)

DAY 2:
Early in the morning, after breakfast, we’ll take an excursion to the Sierra Negra Volcano. This volcano is located 13 miles from Port Villamil and has the second largest volcanic crater in the world, measuring 6 miles in diameter and 300 feet deep. To arrive at this incredible sight we travel in bus or similar vehicle for 45 minutes to the Galapagos National Park where we will register our visit and then begin our hike to the Sierra Negra Volcano. We’ll then proceed to the Volcan Chico where you can feel the warmth of the ground as proof of the volcano’s activity. Here we’ll stop for a box lunch before returning to the hotel. After a brief rest, we’ll have the chance to go snorkeling or swimming at Concha Perla where we can observe the colorful fishes, sea urchins, starfishes, sea lions, or even sea turtles. Hotel Accommodation provided. HOTEL SAN VICENTE GALAPAGOS or LA LAGUNA HOTEL. (B,L,D)

DAY 3:
After breakfast we will go to the GIANT TORTOISE BREEDING CENTER, where we will visit “THE WALL OF TEARS”. From 1946 to 1959, Isabela was designated a penal colony by the Ecuadorian government and prisoners were obligated to build a wall with enormous blocks of lava. Due to the arduous labour and harsh conditions in which the prisoners lived, this site is known as “EL MURO DE LAS LAGRIMAS”. Additionally, we will visit a small lava tunnel and another FLAMINGO LAGOON, and then we will return to the hotel to have lunch.
In the afternoon, we will sail to “ISLOTE TINTORERAS”. It is called this due to a large crevice with very clear calm water in which white-tip sharks known as “TINTORERAS” come daily to rest on the bottom. We can also observe penguins, sea lions, and marine iguanas and go snorkelling with sharks as well as other colourful tropical fishes while enjoying the beaches of Isabela. HOTEL SAN VICENTE GALAPAGOS or “LA LAGUNA HOTEL. (B,L,D)

DAY 4:
After breakfast, we will take the public speedboat to PUERTO AYORA, where the guide will be waiting for us in order to check in to the hotel. Immediately, we will enjoy a wonderful visit to see GIANT TURTLES IN THEIR NATURAL HABITAT.After lunch in the Highlands, we will return to Puerto Ayora and go to the CHARLES DARWIN RESEARCH STATION. Here we will have the opportunity to remember the history of the famous Lonesome George. HOTEL FERNANDINA or SIMILAR. Optional: You may visit the town again at night for dancing and entertainment. (B,L,D)

DAY 5:
After breakfast, we will travel to Baltra Airport, but on the way we will stop by “The Twins” (“The Gemelos”), which are similar to craters, but formed by a collapse of the Earth because of the lava flows that passed below it. The tour will end upon the arrival to the airport where we will depart to Quito or Guayaquil. (B)
