This 3 day ride brings you to the Pululahua Crater and its highly bio-diverse surroundings and fascinating sceneries. This 6-km diameter crater make it the biggest volcanic crater on the American continent, and it is also one of only two inhabited craters world-wide.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Pick up from central meeting point in Quito and drive to the Hacienda in the Pululahua Crater. This first day is marked by volcanic history and nature, interesting geological formations, mineral avalanches blooming with wild orchids and traditional Andean agriculture. You will stay at a home-stay accommodation in the mystical surroundings of the crater walls.

Riding hours: 4-6 hours

Day 2: After a good night rest the trekking continues into deep gorges covered with cloud forest. You can have a quick dive in a crystal clear volcanic stream. Hiking sections necessary. Shoes with good grip and fitness required. You will go back to your home-stay accommodation in the mystical surroundings of the crater walls.

Riding hours: 4-6 hours

Day 3: We’ll be riding through lush tropical vegetation, sugar cane, pineapples and bananas, gathering colourful crab-spiders at lunch-break, enjoying the sound of the crickets while viewing vultures and hawks sailing above us. Riding along narrow moun- tain ridges, we shall also take a glance on the pre-Inca ruins of Portalanza. After this our private transportation takes you back to Quito.

* Since we will ride in the mountains where the trails could be steep and where there is less oxygen lead us to put a maximum on rider weights of 200 pounds.
* Important things to bring: waterproof clothing, comfortable shoes (no flipflops or other type of open shoes), water, sun block, mosquito repellent, sunglasses and your passport.
* It is important that you will have current travel insurance including personal medical insurance. Please inform us of any known medical conditions you have.
* The operator reserves the right to change the itinerary without previous notice due to weather, National Park regulations or notifications and unpredictable circumstances.
